Can't you just be happy?
There’s a misconception between being happy with what we have and being happy: we often confuse the two as being the same thing or a reason for being happy when in fact it shouldn’t necessarily be linked.
Being happy with what we have is to feel content with what we have so it’s not really to feel happy by itself. The confusion of linking happiness with material things or circumstances is strong: we think we should be happy because we have something or we’re in a certain position in life and that should be enough for us to “be” happy. To an extent it’s true but we shouldn’t depend on that to be or feel happy because it will most likely lead to wanting more so we can feel even better.
Sure it’s nice to have new toys or have a certain status or group of friends but at some point it can become an addiction where we need to get more and more and it’s never enough because it’s not the act of having those things that is satisfying but the desire to have them and in a way “collect” them. So we’re never satisfied, it’s never enough.
Let’s appreciate what we have sure but let’s not have it a hold on our well-being because if you were to lose it all, what would become of you if you believe those were “supposed” to make you happy?
