Invest your time or your money?
I normally try to find a solution to problems and fix them myself. It’s not because I want to save money (although it’s always nice to reduce the expenses), but more about the curiosity and the challenge of finding out how.
It’s a double-edge sword though since there will never be a lack of issues to fix, always something new to learn but also, one cannot simply just create time for those. Or at least I didn’t find how yet.
The other day, the cold water in the shower was not working. After trying for a moment to figure out what was up, I decided that the time it would take me to fix this couldn’t be justified compared to paying a plumber to do it (the fact that my wife wanted to have colder water for the shower also had a great weight in the balance for this decision).
So I called and once again, it took him at least 20 hours less than it would’ve taken me if I tried. During that time, he explained what was wrong and I learned a lot.
Morale of the story: sometimes it’s best to invest with money to save the time it would take you to complete a task.
Time is more valuable than money if you use it wisely. Again, that’s something I only started lately to really understand. I was also able to learn something with the plumber AND my wife is happier now so I’d say that’s double the bonus points.
