Making a difference
Putting myself out there was scary at first, but now I’m more comfortable with it.
Finding the right group to share your ideas with isn’t always easy. You may encounter many difficulties and rebuttals before feeling accepted or heard.
When you talk to someone, and all this person is doing is waiting for your silence to start talking, you probably won’t feel heard: we need interaction or acknowledgement that the information was received.
The best we can do is to do it first: start listening actively and really try to understand what the other person is saying. If this is a subject we’re not knowledgeable about, we can ask questions or rephrase to see if it makes sense. Start driving the change in the world by acting the right way yourself.
It can be frustrating not to be heard because it feels like nobody cares. Maybe it’s true, perhaps it’s not. The fact remains that we still feel misunderstood.
The tricky part is to persevere regardless. You can’t wait for others to get it. Be the one pushing further.
To make a difference in the world, we can’t wait for others to act. We have to move and decide what’s next.
Define what you want the world to look like and work in that direction. It’s like repainting a room with the colours you want: you make it yours even if others don’t agree or help you.
At first, this can be a lonely road, but the reward is worth it.
What do you think? Let me know.
