My explanation is not as clear as day?
It’s so easy to be frustrated about simple things. Reflecting, on the other hand, is harder for one good reason: it takes more efforts to look at a situation and analyze instead of simply judge it.
I tend to struggle with that, especially when I’m sure I explained something clearly and yet I get asked questions about the exact answers I gave a moment ago. I guess parts of the problem are my “walls of text” and nonstop talking that can contribute to the confusion.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m no saint: I have plenty of opportunities where I just don’t understand what someone told me and I’m sure they can find it frustrating as well.
Making my message clear and concise is something I try my best to do so it can be easily understood but sometimes I drift on the side and go into needless explanations that, to me, make sense but don’t really add to the conversation or further muddy the water.
Reflecting on how I could perfect and polish my message is still important though: I might have done something wrong by not being clear enough or just used too many words for no real added value.
Since becoming a better communicator is another quality I’d like to add to my arsenal, I need to make sure I don’t get upset if someone doesn’t understand right away. So my laundry list I believe could help me is:
Use fewer words if possible
Review what I wrote/said and ask for feedback right away instead of assuming they’ll understand
Listen more
Don’t try to over-explain
I know, this all seems pretty obvious but I still find it difficult to deal with.
Now that I read this, I realize I went on for a while so, do you have suggestions to make communications easier? Let’s talk!
