Pushing enough or too much?
I’m a big advocate of pushing limits: in whatever I do, I try my best to do the job, and more, whenever possible. Trying harder is a great thing but sometimes trying too hard can be detrimental.
Knowing your limits helps at two levels: you know how far you can go but also, to know when to stop. There’s a fine line between both and knowing the difference is what helps with your growth or your demise.
That is why trying to push just a little bit each time we feel like we reached the limit is a great way to define if it’s just a mental limit or a physical one. We often see this at the gym where you do one more rep or you continue until you fail: then you know you can take a break.
I tend to push myself way too much, too often. That’s a great reminder to always take the time to review what’s done and what needs to be done in fact. I was able to do a few things this month but not as much as I wished. The big problem I see is I didn’t take the time to review my goals often enough which led to missed deadlines.
This continues the theme from the last blog post about the busy work: that’s mostly what I ended doing.
So overall, even though I push myself to do more, maybe I’m at a point where I should do less but go more in depth. That’s worth investigating.
What do you think? What are you struggling with these days? Are you pushing yourself too hard? Not enough? Let’s talk!
