Sharing is caring!
Today I found a way to fix a problem I’ve been wondering about for a while and it led to a solution I wasn’t expecting but that is of great importance to me if required. You never know what hard work will bring.
Since it was still fresh in my head, I documented the process in case I encounter this type of issue later on. That’s something I don’t always think about by default but lately I’ve been doing a much better job. Memory tends to be a faculty that easily forgets so writing down and taking notes helps me a lot.
Making sure to provide valid and useful information to others is essential if we wish to truly help others. It’s not enough to do a good job, it’s necessary to show others as well. Even if we’re talented in certain areas, we won’t live forever so it’s important to share the knowledge we have.
One of the worst thing to do, at least as far as I’m concerned, is to solely rely on memory to remember how to do something: whenever I work under stress and pressure, which is quite often I must say, I prefer to read a guide instead of trying to find a solution by brute force (even more so when it’s 3am and I need a solution now).
Documenting what was done then helps others too: there’s no point in finding a fix for a problem twice unless the fix itself could be improved.
That’s why sharing knowledge is essential if we wish to grow and become better: hopefully we can learn from past mistakes, as long as we don’t let the ego get in the way, but that’s another matter.
