What are your purpose and goals?
Knowing what you want in life can be a pretty lengthy quest.
Having a purpose is one thing that helps us through life. Ideally, we can work towards a goal more significant than ourselves and thrive doing so. That's why helping others can often feel so rewarding and fulfilling.
Many persons around the globe will go through life without asking themselves questions. It's possible they don't want an answer or don't accept the consequences or price to pay to reach a goal. Maybe there are circumstances out of their control, preventing them from acting. Who knows?
The point here is we're all different and are all coming from different backgrounds, so what I'm talking about here is not necessarily a universal and one size fits all solution for everyone.
However, it's worth noting that asking yourself questions about what you want, where you want to go, what you want to do in life, what talent you want to offer to the world are all great candidates for starting a better tomorrow.
Knowing your purpose in life or what you can do to help others isn't necessarily a sure bet: it doesn't guarantee you'll have the impact you desire, but you can at least try and aim at something. It's far better to do that instead of wishing for a better future without a real sense of direction.
I think it's already a significant step forward when you consider what you can do to help another human being: it shows care and empathy. It offers you a positive action towards someone else than just yourself. It doesn't mean to forget about you completely: remember, we discussed knowing yourself and what works for you. This is self-care, and this comes first.
Once you're there, you can push further and see what else can be done because the more you give to the world, the more you'll get in return.
I'm also not talking about giving away everything you have and living in a box unless that's something you feel like doing.
All that to say that having a goal in life is essential even if you may never reach it: it's who you become in the process that is important.
As Marcus Aurelius said: "Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one."
Embody the change you'd like to see in the world, and it will slowly become a better place. Who doesn't want to live in a better world, anyway?
What do you think? Let me know.
