With great power comes great responsibility?
Stress is a strange thing: it can make you worry and freeze but it can also act as a productivity booster. So in a way, it has great power and potential, the question is, how will you use it?
There are two types of stress:
Distress: bad, negative
Eustress: good, positive
From what I understand, the distress causes anxiety and concerns while eustress is excitement. Those two are polar opposites but the thing is, to the body, it’s a similar biological reaction: in both the heart beats faster and the body is getting ready for action. It’s an aroused state.
Whether a situation is good or bad is really a perception of the event. I’m not saying that we should just think positively and see no evil but, from what I experienced so far in life, trying to find the silver lining is more interesting and less depressing than to just accept it as it is or should I say, perceived.
So that’s where the responsibility part comes into play: I believe in accountability and doing my best to find the good in something and at least do my best to find a way to make the event better.
Again, I’m not saying it’s always possible and I don’t have the audacity to pretend that I know what you’ve been going through. All I’m saying is it doesn’t hurt to try and see if it’s really that gloomy or if something can actually be done about it.
What do you think? Let’s talk!
