Working towards a common goal
This morning, I had a lovely display of what it means to work together towards a common goal.
It was cold outside, and the house was also about to feel it. I decided to start the fireplace, but the chimney was also cold.
After trying to heat it up a bit, it was clear: there shall be smoke.
And so it did: the basement started to fill up, and the smoke detector yelled at me.
Since it was still early, the kids woke up and got downstairs. Annoyed by the sound, we had a common goal: clear the smoke.
Using blankets and cardboards, we were trying our best to make the air better, but as soon as we caught a break, the detector yelled again and again.
It wasn’t an easy task, but we could clear this out. It wasn’t the work itself that was hard, but it seemed never-ending. The little gadget was relentless in letting us know we were not done yet.
All in all, it made me think about how we can all work together towards a common goal when we have an incentive to do so.
It may not always be as easy, and we may be reminded many times that we’re not done yet, or we may think we’re not making much progress, but if we do it together and keep pushing towards the finish line, we can do this.
Not everything in life is easy, and, just like this morning, we can be tired after a while, but when we have others to help us, the load is lighter, and we can sometimes even laugh about it afterwards.
Let us help each other and see how we can be of service to one another: you never know when a simple gesture can be a gift to someone else.
What do you think? Let me know.
